The Look of Wonder

Children amaze me. I feel so blessed to be able to work with kids every day, even when today was a ruff one. We have been studying the Nutcracker all week in every grade. It amazes me the look of wonder the kids have in their eyes as I read the story. They are all enchanted by the music and story. I never realized just how enchanting The Nutcracker is until this week. Boys and Girls alike are drawn into the magical world of Clara and her Nutcracker. I love the look on the kids faces when they are told a story. The react to the story as if it were real. For example every single one of them had a look of amazement as the Nutcracker battled the Mouse King.

It helps on days like today, when it seems every child is out of hand, to find the beauty in every child. Even those kids who drive you crazy everyday have something special about them. To look them in the eye and see that sparkle of hope. Unfortunately more and more as the children get older that spark of hope is gone. I guess that is why I love first graders so much. Each and every one of them still see the world as being good and there is hope for the future in their eyes.
