Love at Christmas

This last Sunday of Advent we lit the candle that represents love. Love that came to earth when Jesus was born and even more the love that was shown when Jesus paid the price for our sins on the Cross. This week I have been pondering the word love and the love that God has for us and today I had a new revelation.

This time of year seems to be the most difficult for me when it comes to being single. This time of year is always so magical and you want to share those special moments with some one special. Plus you have the whole New Year's Eve kiss at midnight that every girl imagines to be so romantic. Not that I have ever experienced that myself the one time I was dating someone over New Year's Eve he was out of the country at the time. All this said I think many singles have a hope to find that person they are going to spend the rest of their lives with during this time of the year.

As I pondered my plight of singleness I noticed a trend in my life. I tend to fall for guys who will never feel the same way for me. I become the "good friend" instead of the "girlfriend." This always brings such frustration and heartache. But the revelation I had this week is the fact that God goes through this same thing everyday thousands of times over. He loves us so deeply and reaches out to each of us everyday and yet many times he is rejected, he knows that we will never return the feelings he has for us and yet he continues to pursue us. Even those of us who choose to love him and follow him fall short everyday. It is not possible for us to love God as much as he loves us and he knows that. I mean really would you continue to pursue someone when you knew that they were just going to reject you, cheat on you, and could never truly return your love fully? It blows me away, I know I get frustrated after just a few months of waiting on a guy to finally ask me out and then I just give up. God never gives up on us, he even knows how everything is going to turn out and yet he never gives up. He never loves us any less no matter what we choose to do or how much we hurt him. This is truly shown in the book of Hosea. God had Hosea marry a prostitue that he knew was going to cheat on him to show Isreal how he felt about them. Hosea stayed true to his wife even though she was unfaithful and he even took care of her children even though they were not his. God shows us that same love and devotion every day.

"I will heal their waywardness and love them freely, for my anger has turned away from them."
Hosea 14:4
