Boys will be Boys

Today was quite a funny day. I had a few extra minutes at the end of one of my second grade classes and one of the girls asked if she could sing a song. So I let her sing for the class, it was quite off key but cute. That led to an impromptu talent show for the last 5 minutes. What I found funny was that one boy decided that his talent was that he could do 10 push ups, now these were on his knuckles and he had great form, so I praised him as any teacher would. Well that started the ball rolling. The next boy decided that he was going to do more push ups as his talent, then I had a boy who did one arm push ups, and that led to the pinnacle of all the "Manly Show Off." I had a boy who did a head stand, it was quite impressive because he didn't push off or anything he just put his head on the floor and then used his abs to pull his feet up.

Anyway the point of this is that no matter what the age boys are always trying to one up each other. The other funny part was that they kept looking to see if the girls were watching them. Come on now! They are only in the second grade the oldest of them is 8. It is amazing how much children learn from the adults they are in contact with everyday.

I pray everyday that I can be a positive influence in these children's lives. Some of them have no positive influences at home and their actions reflect that. If I can change one child's life all of the hard work I put in everyday will be so worth it.
