Nothing New!

In all honesty, besides hanging with my family this weekend, life has been kind of boring. Though I can't say that this fact bothers me. It has actually been nice just to hang around the house and enjoy the peace and quite. Though I did manage to bring my total number of geocache finds up to 100 thanks to a couple of days of hunting with my dad and mom. :)
Now that I have no longer have cable I have started reading more again. Right now I am on the the second book of the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. This series has me slightly baffled, not because of the story line, but because of the fact that it sucks you in and you can't put the book down! Now I have read other page turners in my day but the thing that baffles me is that I can't put my finger on what exactly makes the story so incredibly intriguing. Honestly the story line is very strange with non-human eating vampires, werewolf people, and a girl who doesn't know any better than to get her life all intertwined in the midst of it all. Yet, ask any of the teachers I work with, I swear there are at least 20 teachers at my school that have read this series or are in the process of reading them, including our one male teacher, and they will tell you these books are a great read!

Kelly's Book List!

So every once in a while I will post a little snippet about a book I absolutely love. Well seeing as this is only the second book I have ever posted maybe I should do this more often. Anyway this one is in honor of my niece Janae. I bought her this book for her birthday and she insists on it being read/sung to her every night before she goes to bed. I was actually introduced to this book when I was student teaching because it has a great Orff recorder lesson that goes along with it, for all you music teachers who know what I am talking about. So without further ado the book is...

Hush by Minfong Ho illustrated by Holly Meade

Not only is it a good bed time story it has the most amazing pictures. My niece loves to imitate all of the animal sounds and she even tries to sing along. Now the melody is not written in the book. I think it was made up specifically for the lesson I mentioned above but if you know me I would be glad to teach it to you as well.

Speechless!!!

Have you ever met someone you had read about but never expected to meet in person? How did you react? How do you think you would react? Well today I found out exactly how I would react, and apparently I just stare dumbfounded and at a loss for words.

Brother Yun, a house church pastor from China, was speaking at the First Baptist Church of Springdale today. My roommates and I planned on going to hear him speak. I had read parts of his book "The Heavenly Man" a few years ago, my roommate Whitney had also read his book, but my Kathy had only seen our excitement about a chance to hear him speak so she decided to come along too. Whitney's friend Amanda came with us as well.

So we decided that we would just make a morning of it and go eat breakfast as well. We had a wonderful time just hanging out and chatting over breakfast and then headed to the church. We were there and hour early so that we could get seats in the front. We were slowly wondering toward the sanctuary when all of the sudden one of the doors opened and there stood Brother Yun, his wife, and a few other people with them. All four of us just stood there and stared, none of us knew what to say or what to do. Finally Brother Yun's wife walked over and shook our hands and so we introduced ourselves to the rest of the group.

It was kind of odd to actually get to shake the hand of a man I had read so much about. This man that God has used over and over again in miraculous ways. Yet, he is still just a man. But he is a man seeking hard after God in all that he does. I can't even begin to tell even a small amount of his story. I would strongly suggest you read the book.

It was pretty funny because once we got home this afternoon all three of us were sitting in the living room reading "The Heavenly Man." Tonight I am going to hear him speak again. I am excited because it is a question and answer time although I probably won't be able to think of any good questions to ask.
