After 6 hours straight of teaching class I am completely exhausted! The way the schedule worked out this year I don't have a planning time on Friday. That is against the law, however there is nothing I can do about it. So needless to say I am wiped out and my voice is shot. I realize I talk and sing quite a bit everyday but 6 hours straight will wear anyone out. Though the great part is that even when I am really tired the kids can make me laugh.
During my second grade class today, I was explaining the game we were going to play. Part of the game requires the kids to pass a giant blow up hammer around the circle. When we get to the end of the song who ever has the hammer gets to sing their name and then hit the hammer once on the ground. I told the kids "Be careful not to hit your neighbor in the process." After I said that the kids gave me a very funny look and started giggling. I was totally clueless as to what was so funny so I asked them. One little girl raised her hand and said "They thought you said not to hit them in the privates." Of course I was a bit embarrassed. I couldn't help it I had to join in with their laughter. But I quickly recovered by saying "In the process of hitting the hammer on the floor don't hit your neighbor." Then they all said "OH" and we went on with the game.
Then there was the little first grader who yelled out "Well you need to get married" after I explained that Miss in front of my name means I am not married. Did I mention I loved first graders? Life always seems so simple through their eyes.
I might be exhausted by the end of the day but my job is never boring!!

if you like, an article on 3 local teachers prepping for classes, from our local weekly paper.
That was a great article thanks for sharing it with me :) I am glad to see that it has taken other teachers years to learn how to manage their classroom. Going on year 4 now I feel like I already have so much more control than I have in years past.
