Okay so it isn't the official new year but it was the first day back for the teachers around here. Getting ready for a new school year is always exciting and crazy but this year is quadruply so at my school. They are totally renovating our school while we are in it! They are building an entire new front to the school and then gutting the existing part of the school as well. This morning when we got there the driveway has been completly dug up and there was a good 6 inch drop you had to drive over to get in so that you could park. They are supposed to be taking care of that tomorrow at some point so hopefully it doesn't rain like today. Several of our teachers have changed grades they are teaching this year and almost everyone has had to change classrooms. When we all walked in today you couldn't tell where the classrooms were! We have an open space school right now so there are no walls only bookcases define classroom space.
My old classroom was being filled with concrete today. So finally my dream of a flat floor has come true, only I don't get to use my room because one of the kindergarten rooms ended up will them moving a wall and she lost 4ft of her class on that side, it was a tiny classroom to start with and now it is teeny tiny! So our principal asked if I would be hurt if she gave my room to the kindergarten teacher and I just stay put out in the portable. I said that was fine, and really this way I can stay in place all year and not have to move in December when everyone has to vacate the old part of the building! In the portable I finally took down all the stuff from the resource teacher who's room I ended up taking over last year when mine flooded. The walls of that building are horrible!!! So the art teacher and I have decided that even though we are only in those rooms for a year we are going to paint! Our principle is great and said that if we want to do it that's fine, plus the building will probably just be torn down in a year anyway. So I started painting one of my walls a dark red color and I think the other three are just going to be a creamy white color. I wanted to paint two of the walls red but it is going to take so many coats to paint just the one that I don't think I have the time or patience to paint two.
Tomorrow is Vertical teaming which is always interesting considering we are our own vertical team since we teach K-5. Though I think this year we are actually going to be meeting with the 6th and 7th grade music teachers too. That will be a first!
