Joy in the Simple Things

I love that some of the most wonderful things in the world are extremely simple. For example tonight I made one of my traditional Christmas cookies. They only have 4 ingredients; Oreo's, cream cheese, chocolate chips, and butter. Yet they are some of the most indulgent cookies in the world. I had some tell me tonight she thought that they were store bought because they were so decadent.

I think at this time of the year it is important to remember the simple things in life that bring us joy. All too often we get caught up in the extravgence of Christmas and lose the wonder and magic of the season. So just for fun I thought I would share with you my top 10 list of my favorite simple things. In no particular order

10) Christmas Ball Cookies aka Moose Balls (you will have to ask about that story later)
9) A hug from that kid that drives you crazy everyday but you love them anyway
8) A roaring fire
7) The smell of spiced cider on the stove
6) The voice of my niece saying "I talk Aunt Kelly" when I call my sister
5) An e-mail from a friend
4) Driving around and looking at Christmas lights
3) White lights on a Christmas Tree
2) Singing "Silent Night" a cappella by candle light
1) Walking outside when it is snowing

Quick rant. This is totally off the subject. But I think that those stupid blow up yard decorations are extremely tacky. And there should be a law that you are not allowed to put more than one in your yard. I can't believe these people that have three or more of those things blocking their entire house.
