Storybook Love

Why is it we have always been fascinated with fairy tales. The unsuspecting girl plays coy and waits for the man of her dreams to come and whisk her away. The Prince is handsome, brave, and of course charming. The instant they see each other they know they are meant to be together forever and they pledge their undying love for each other. He is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure his love is protected and they are together forever. And of course they live happily ever after, it would never end any other way.

If only it were so easy. It seems it was that easy for Adam and Eve, I would say they had the ultimate storybook love, except they lost their happily ever after. With the fall came sin and God's perfect relationship for us fell with that. The great part for Adam and Eve was that God made Eve especially for Adam. She was his help mate in every way. Adam was made to initiate and Eve to respond.

Does God still create us especially for each other? Is there one person out there for which I was made to be a perfect help mate? Or was it just in general, God could have given any woman to be Adam's help mate she just happened to be the first? What effect did the fall have on the relationships God intended for us? I don't know the answers to any of these questions. All I know is that at times like these I have to trust that God knows what he is doing and I don't.

I think we are all still enthralled by fairy tales because in a weird round about way that is what God originally intended for us. That the knight in shining armor would come for his bride. In the process he had to save the damsel in distress. Jesus is returning, the handsome, brave, and charming knight to save his unsuspecting bride from her own demise. Of course this is a weak analogy but you know I think that deep down in our hearts that is exactly why we dream of a storybook love.

You may be wondering what brought this random line of thought about. Though anyone who knows me knows I need no excuse to be random. I went and saw the Moscow Ballet production of the "Nutcracker." Her prince really was the man of her dreams.
