As a kid the Teacher's Lounge always seemed like a magical place. It was where the teachers all disappeared to and of course had a party. It was the room where all of the "fun" must have been stored, otherwise why would they keep it such a secret.
I am here to tell you it is not a magical land, although it can be quite entertaining. Especially when you get 4 single girls, and a couple other kindergarten teachers all thrown in the mix. Usually our conversation revolves around the latest dating updates, American Idol, LOST, Gray's Anatomy, and what crazy thing the kindergartners did that day.
Today the topic of conversation veered slightly and revolved around whether guys and girls can just be friends. One of the girls said that it is impossible unless one of the following exceptions are in play. One you have already dated the guy, two you have made out with the guy, three they are a friend of the guy you are currently dating, or four they are the boyfriend/husband of one of your good girlfriends.
At first I wanted to argue with her. I wanted to say that guys and girls can be just friends and not want anything more. Then I stopped and thought for a moment. In my life all of my guy friends, that I haven't either been attracted to or they have been attracted to me at some point, all fit in one of the four exceptions.
We even had an honorary lunch member today. (A single guy who subs at our school quite often) He informed all of us ladies that guys are clueless and they don't understand the concept of going out as just friends. I don't know if this is true but I find it quite funny.
Really this question has been around for quite sometime. It was even addressed in When Harry Met Sally. I am sure that there are more exceptions out there than the 4 we came up with. However, I am still amazed that every single one of my guy friends do fit into one of those four categories. I guess really only two, guys I have dated and guys who are married to my good girlfriends.

Here's a fifth exception -- the guy is gay.
Okay I will give you that one
A sixth exception: When you grow up with a guy and think of him as a brother.
Okay so I do have guy friends from High School that fit into the sixth exception as well.
