Really it all began on Thursday night. I was planning on driving to Oklahoma after work on Thursday since we were taking all of the Lifesource Kids to the Tulsa Zoo on Friday morning. I was going to meet them there and take my niece Kallie along with me. At 9:30 I had finally gotten everything done and was backing out of my driveway when I realized that my camera had been left at work. There was no way I was going to go to go anywhere without my camera. Once I realized it was going to be pushing 12:30 by the time I would reach my sisters house, I decided to just get up early, go get my camera, and then head on my way.
So bright and early at 5:00 I got out of bed, got ready, ran and got my camera, and was on my way by 6:30. My sister had been taken to the hospital at 6:00 that morning to me induced so I went straight to the hospital. When I arrived at 8:30 she was having some really strong contractions. By the time my parents called to make the "Kallie Exchange" they were prepping her for an epidural.
I headed to meet my parents at the zoo at about 9:30. We got there and switched out the car seat and everything, but in the process I managed to lock my keys in the car. Thank goodness I have Emergency roadside service that covers the cost of Keys getting locked in the car.
While I am on the phone trying to get a locksmith my brother-in-law calls and says my sister is dilated to 10cm and they are setting up the room. I was totally surprised considering it was only 10:00! So needless to say my parents took off and headed for the hospital but I was stuck. Plus I had to wait for all of the kids from Lifesource to arrive as well.
Luckily the bus and the tow truck arrived at the same time. So I got my keys and before I could even get to were the kids were my mom called and said that Joseph had arrived at 10:16. Needless to say at that point I really didn't want to go to the zoo but I had promised my niece and it is my job. So I got all the kids organized and we headed in.
After about an hour and a half we stopped for lunch. I had planned on sneaking out after lunch and heading for the hospital. However, Kallie had another idea. From the moment we had walked in the gate all she wanted to to was ride the train. There was no way we were going to be able to leave without riding the train. Of course when we got to the station the train had just left so we had to sit and wait for another 15 minutes.
Finally at 2:00 we headed for the hospital! Kallie didn't quite know what to think about her new baby brother but as soon as she got to hold him she was in love. They were so cute and my sister looked amazing! I finally got to hold him and he is so cute!
At 5:30 I headed to my brothers house and babysitted my other niece Janae. We hung out all night, read books, and watched some Veggie Tales. At about 10 I headed back to the hospital to stay the night with my sister.
It is quite an experience to spend all night with a new born. People are in and out at all hours and of course he was awake half the night. It was great to be there but I am exhausted.
So I would say besides random timing, locking my keys in the car, and being exhausted I had a very lucky Friday the 13th. One that I won't ever forget!
