Get Your "Caches" on Route 66

Yesterday we had The Great Route 66 Cache Run! Okay so maybe it wasn't great as in huge, but we had a great time! All of my family, that in Oklahoma, got together and we geocaching. We started in Claremore and worked our way up the old Route 66 to within 2 miles of the Oklahoma Kansas border. We managed to find 20 caches and only had 3 that we looked for and didn't find. We also stopped at a random statue of a guy who ran all the way from New York to L.A. and held the record back in the 1920's I think, I can't remember all the details. We also stopped by Totem Pole Park which is where the worlds largest totem pole is located. I had been to this park when I was younger but it looks much better now because they have restored it all! We also stopped by the Buffalo Ranch and got to see a few buffalo. And the rarest sight of all the things we saw was gas prices at $2.95 a gallon. Can you believe it?!?

Our trip ended up taking all day!! We left at around 10:30 that morning and we got back to my parents house about 8 that night. It was so much fun, even though my allergies were about to get the best of me by the time we got home. The coolest part was learning about some of the different places along the route from a cookbook/history of Route 66 book that my brother and sister-in-law picked up at Totem pole park. I think we will have to plan to go the other direction on 66 sometime soon and pick up a few more caches along the way!

Totem Pole Park

My family is at the base of the totem pole. It is HUGE!

The artist of the totem pole was a fiddle maker. At onetime this building had over 300 fiddles in it now they have about 100 on display. These were just a few but they were all beautiful.

One of the caches we didn't find was near this old hotel sign. The area around it now has pretty much just become a dumping ground and the old building has collapsed.
